i do not recall a vacuum port on the mk2. you will need to use the raptor petcock with a inline fuel filter between the tank and carb. then fire it up and jet it. there is not much info on that subject, one can hope your needle and throttle valve are correct.

Thanks for that info bud, question, where in the world does the throttle cable go?

You need a different throttle cable.
The stock cable will not work on the Amal Mk II carb.
When you do have the correct cable it is installed down through the hole in the middle of the screw on cap and attaches directly to the floor inside the bottom of the slide.
** I do have cables that are made for the the Amal Mk II and the Mikuni VM carbs.  The same cable works for both types of carb.

What are the advantages from a Amal carb versus the stock carb. What kind of performance gain is expected changing nothing else on the bike and how does it affect the mpg?

You don't truly need a raptor but I would highly recommend it.  I've done both.  I installed my Mk2 before the raptor was ”discovered” and actually drilled a hole in the throat of the carb and installed a nipple to tap vacuum.  This was, by the way, Lancer's idea and worked perfectly.  I just hate the vacuum-controlled petcock and replaced it as soon as I could, returning the Mk2 to its former state (or very close) with some aluminum epoxy.  In my opinion, the Mk2 with a raptor is a perfect pairing.

The Amal Mk II and the Mikuni VM are the same basic TYPE of carburetor.
They are direct cable actuated round slide carburetors that have been used for years, especially on big single racing bikes in past years.  They are simple, inexpensive and make very good power on the LS650 engine.
The Mk II's I had a few years ago were nearly perfect for the LS650 engine.  I just pulled it from the box, mounted it and with a little tweaking of the pilot screw it was ready to go.

I used to have the Amal MK II manual in my computer files on the old machine.  I think I still have the hard drive and if so will check to see if it's still there and if so will transfe it to the MAC and post it.

Ok after watching some youtubes i know know which is the pilot air screw and the throttle or idle screw....

Now i think i need to know what little brass nipple is for where a clear plastic tube is attached on my MK2... Its located on the front of the carb ...Left side closest to the motor... I dont think its for vaccum but not sure what its for maybe to allow more air in??? Undecided
