engines savages 400 and 650 of the same size and they can be easily replaced between them. pinion gear savage 400 and the savage 650 is also the same (in microfiche partnumbers of one and the same).
most likely the difference horsepower savage 650 and the savage 400 smoothed due to a shorter stroke crankshaft of the engine.
