Progressive Shocks?
03/05/12 at 08:26:51

So, I am totally lost looking for new shocks  Embarrassed

According to the Progressive Suspension website (http://www.progressivesuspension.com/) there are no models listed to fit our bikes. I know a few of you have put different shocks on your bikes and I'm looking for suggestions.

Would like to get a little bit better ride for when the wife and I are both on the bike. Our combined weight is probably right around 400# with all the riding gear on that we wear  Cool I don't mind a bit stiffer ride when it is just me, but would like to keep from bottoming out with the 2 of us on there.

Honestly, I don't plan on buying the shocks new, so I am constantly browsing ebay looking for a pair that might work.

Any help with model numbers or advice would be appreciated.  Cool

1st thing to do is to download their catalog and look up the models offered.

I wanted a 11" shock... most common at the time was for a sportster, a 412-1005.
Got a pair for $120 to 150, don't remember exactly.
Turned out to be a little light, I took highest setting for my 240#.
Now look that up in the catalog, see the spring rate?
Now find the next highest spring rate for the same length... That's the spring rate you want.
I got a set of 440's with those "1313" springs and I couldn't be more happy.

If you get a set for an american bike, all it takes to change it to the savage is a tube with 1/32" wall that'll fit in the bushing and over the spring mount.  Progressive also has an adapter set for the metric bikes.

The part number for the metric insert set and also the larger insert set which includes metric & US sizes have been posted on this forum in the past.
I have them down in the garage and if I can find them will post them again.

That would be great, but don't go searching on my behalf. This is just one of those things I think would be nice, but with the prices of most those shocks, even used, I don't know if I will be able to justify it  Undecided

Also, Versy, I downloaded the latest application chart from their website and the Savage/S40 is not listed anywhere in the charts.  Huh But knowing that others have used shocks from and Intruder, does anybody know if the S50 Progressive shocks would work without having to mess with adapters? (Might be able to find some cheap used ones if they are readily available for another bike)

Hey! What do you know? That model # is listed as the standard 412 series 11" for 1992-2007 VS800 Intruder/Blvd S50

I guess you just answered my question about the Intruder/S50 shocks fitting  Cheesy

Part numbers for the Progressive shock insert sets are:

metric set:  #5011-051  (price was $11)

full set (standard & metric combined):  #5011-008 (price was $15.92)

**the prices listed are a couple of years old so they may be higher now

Do you know if #5011-051 will fit with Progressive 412-4056C? This is pretty much the covered version of 412-4232C.

I believe it's a generic part that will fit in any of their shocks.
You could simply find a 1/2" tube with .030" wall (if I remember correctly) cut it length, slip it into the end and you'd have the same thing.
1/2 id is the mount for HD and 14mm is for suzuki.

I finally installed the 412-4056C on a my Suzuki S40. What a difference! Progressive was not helpful at all to provide the inserts, even when I gave them the specific part numbers. I found inserts elsewhere. I want to ride this for a week or 2 and I will provide the details later as I have made a video for it. I will edit the video and post, thereafter.

Glad it all worked out. I've said it 100 times, the OEM shocks are about the worst you could put on a motorcycle. I'm looking forward to the video.

Where did you find the inserts? I'm ordering my suspension tonight and want to get it all at once if I can.
