How much play should front sprocket have?
02/27/12 at 13:49:03

I pulled my sprocket cover off and the belt today and noticed that the sprocket has a lot of play on the shaft. I pulled it off and looked at the splines and they seem to be curved to one side. Doesnt seem normal to me, but Ive never had a bike with a belt drive before. The bike has 7600 miles on it and I haven't got to ride it much since its been a winter project. Thanks

It should have ZERO play!!!
Sounds like you caught it before the sprocket got completely chewed by the shaft.
Some people have been able to "save" it with JB Weld or other techniques.  Best bet is to get a sprocket from fleabay and replace it.
Splined washer may need replaced if you can't salvage it.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Well i found a used one on ebay off a 2004 with supposedly 3400 miles. I can definitely tell the difference. The splines on the new one are nice and square.....the ones on mine come to a point. Don't think mine would have lasted much longer before stranding me somewhere. thanks for the help guys.
