noob here with a quick belt ques.

Hi everyone! I have a 96 savage in flawless shape. I love the bike.
I have been noticing the past month or so it has began squeeling under acceleration from the drive belt. Is this due to tenshion slop? old belt? bad alignment? any help appreciated....

Id start with some talcum powder sprinkled on the lower run as I rolled it, to make sure it is just belt squeak. Have you messed with anything to change belt tension? There is a pretty small sweet spot. Is it running to the side of either pulley?

Its most like a chirping i guess id call it. Im really mechanical but havent had a belt driven bike before. It can be isolated to the rear pulley and belt when riding. it mainly does it only when on the throttle and is absolutely at the rear pulley and belt.
I bought the bike from  a woman who hadent ridden it much in a few years so it sat in  a garage for about 3 years, I then got it and put 100 miles a day on it for a month or so and the sound developed on a cold day when it got wet. then it never went away.

Thanks for the quick replies. right now im kicking myself in the arse! I drive all my trucks with a bar of ivory soap incase the belt squeals, but apparantly the minute i touch a bike i go stupid. I am almost positive the silicone or small dab of grease will do the trick. Thanks again. Ill get some pics up soon. She's a good bike. Was owned since 1996 by a woman who had it factory serviced for everything. So I threw some chrome and leather on it and ride it. I love the light weight feel and its a great back road cruiser. I have alot of fun.

one last question. I bought a k&n filter, a JARDINE slip on and a jet kit. Any chance I can get away with the JARDINE slip on and filter withour jetting it?

Be really observant of a possible exhaust leak at either the muffler joint or the header joint. Either one will cause nasty popping  Shocked

Soap or wax on that belt, no oil derivatives. I use Gulf canning wax, but it does sling off & get on the wheel,, but I cant see the wheel when Im riding, I can hear the belt., Yes, wet will make it squawk,,

perfect. the weather should break in a few days and ill squeeze in a quick ride and wax it.

I just joined so I cant pm yet. once i add the jardine,k&n filter, and jet the bike accordingly. Is there any other suggested mods I can do without tearing down the jug that will liven it up some more? Any electrical suggestions? Im doing fuel, and air, is there any good spark mods that actually make a difference?
