No need to take the motor out of the frame for anything but spliting the cases.http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w457/mikespictures1/th_DSCN0135.jpg

With a verslavy you could've saved the cost of the 3rd chain as you would have been just finishing up the 1st chain.

and I don't understand what you're asking   Huh

Fair gas mileage -- Stage 1 Lancer cam

Really crappy gas mileage -- Stage 2 Lancer cam    but able to beat Oldfeller on straightaways

===========

No real risk -- Stage 1 Lancer Cam

Some risk of valve float and piston / valve contact -- Stage 2 Lancer Cam

===========

No risk of making Oldfeller do something drastic to beat you -- Stage 1 Lancer Cam

Some risk of Nitrous Oxide entering the picture -- Stage 2 Lancer cam

So Stage One cam  is the most most folks need.

I wouldn't want to have any of these "OldFellers" behind me trying to catch up.   Could be dangerous !!!

And then theres the thing about fuel millage , I wouldn't want to go down to 80 miles per tank if I can help it.   accually  60mpg is where I'd rather be , the power thing is mute anyway (The Savage hasn't come up short in that area even with stock everything).

So Versey here's a Question;

The 95mm Wiseco piston is what 10.5:1 compression.   So with a stock cam what carb jets would get the best fuel millage , and then the stage 1 cam jets ?  Huh

And OldFeller
The Nitgrous Oxide would be on your bike , right ? Grin
Right befor it got airborn.  Maby airborn is the wrong word it might give Lancer  IDEAS.

This is what I had built, no change in jets for the cam/piston change.  You will need premium though.

I'm glad to hear that !

a few years back I took the jug off to remove the gasket under the cylinder (ultra-gray only),  well that let the piston go up toward the head a few more thousands, and so I got used to using high test.

So versey you got the stage 1 cam and the 95mm Wiseco piston ?    do you think the cam was worth the money ?

Not sure if the piston or the cam boosted me from 85 to 90 on my test track.  Both were done at the same time.

If you want a real kick in the pants, do the carb.  But prepare for a real drop in mpg.

I have to admit that I'm so used to my Amal and have been running it for so long that I don't remember the particulars on the Mikuni nearly as well.  I lost some mileage with it but gained simplicity and responsiveness.  Between that, the K&N air filter and the slightly larger rear tire, I see a nice difference.  For me it's not the top end so much as the throttle response.  The vacuum lag just bugged me, though it did help fuel efficiency.

Rob

you running the stock piston and cam ?    you remember fuel milage is directly related to the "Fun Factor" in driving.   You think that might account to the fuel useage ? Grin

You still pushing 50 mpg ? Huh

Still stock cam & piston but would likely upgrade when replacement time comes.  I'm not sure just what I'd choose but I tend to go for reliability and ease of maintenance.  The fun factor is there, especially with a responsive throttle.  Depending on my riding style, I get anywhere from about 45 to 55 MPG., typically closer to the 48-50 range.
