powder coat crankcase covers? (Read 86 times)

Posts: 56	powder coat crankcase covers? 01/17/12 at 22:14:45 I took off the left and right crankcase covers with the intent of having them powder coated. But now I realize that the right cover's plastic oil window and rubber O-rings and washers might be damaged from the heat. Has anyone powder coated these parts, and if so were there any issues?

Powder coating usually only withstands 200 degrees I believe, you can get higher temp stuff but the places usually don't stock it and it's expensive. I think crankcases run about 250 degrees or so?

You can get DEI High temp coating spray 1600 degrees (in a can) or Rustoleum High Temp spray 2000 degrees (they make a primer too) and just use that for like $15. I think they're a ceramic high temp spray too...

Reply #4 - 01/19/12 at 01:14:51 Just to be on the safe side, ask the powder coater what degrees the powder they use can withstand... the powder coater here told me 200 degrees, and I'd have to pay out of my own pocket for anything higher temp.. that's a lot of cash for it to flake off in the summer...

sbaugz Ex Member	Re: powder coat crankcase covers? Reply #5 - 01/19/12 at 04:33:54 I had mine powder coated and I remove the sight window. If you are worried, just pop the sight window out. It comes out super easy with a small screwdriver. Just pop it out. When you are done powdercoating, use a little silicone to put it back in place.

Reply #6 - 01/19/12 at 19:45:50 I have mine done, they taped over the window and everything was fine. It is glass, not plastic. I've had super good luck with powder coating.
