Should I buy these jets?
12/07/11 at 11:42:14

Hello, I've got a savage with a cheap eBay cone air filter, and a jardine slashcut exhaust.

it runs nice and all, with a little bit of backfiring when I let off the throttle, I figure Ill need to rejet.

I'd assume I'll need either a stage 2 or a stage 3.

would it be acceptable to buy them from here?

or does anyone know of a good place to buy jets?

For about $12-$15 from any motorcycle shop you should be able to do just as well and have more to choose from.

Here's the stock jets and 2 new pilot and main jets that I got when I rejetted mine. It's best to take in your jets with you so that they can be sure to match them up properly.

My stock was 145/52.5 and with a cheap cone air filter and minimally baffled pipe I now run a 147.5/55 setup - living at about 4500' elevation

ill have to check with my cycle shop if they have the, or can order them for cheap.

its just a matter of pulling the biek out of storage then tearing it apart this winter. do you know where I can find that jet table someone made on here?

I use nichcycle.com to get jets at a fairly reasonable price.

look in the technical section's table of contents for jetting recommendations. I think Serowbot has a jetting guide in there too. There exists a possibility that you just need to adjust the idle mixture screw on the carb rather than re-jetting, depending on your situation.

Be aware that there are alternative causes of backfiring that aren't just jetting, such as a dirty TEV valve (see TEV cleaning or tuning in the table of contents), or exhaust leaks.

If the bike runs well and the spark plug is a decent tan color you might want to leave well enough alone and scope out the other likely causes of backfiring.

EDIT: can't type. should be http://nichecycle.com/

I personally wouldn't buy that kit, unless I missed it they don't tell you anything about the jets....

and silly... other than you're running a cone and jardine... nobody know's anything about you.  whether you're at sea level or 5,000 ft.  especially that guy in land o'lakes, it all makes a difference.  stage 1 or 2 compared to what where?  makes no sense to me.  take the bowl off your carb and find out what jets you currently have.  How do they compare to stock?  if they're stock then get 1 size up on the pilot and 150, 152 and 155 mains.  if they're not then just a couple sizes up on the main.

And read thru 'bots carb tuning.
