I always tell my daughter we need to go to Taco Bell and eat some food squeezed out of a caulking gun. We also have something in the South called "Slug Burgers". Apparently called that because they used to cost a nickel. (Slug). Anyway, we love 'em.  Smiley

Im lucky. I remember  "back when" when a guy could hit a burger joint for lunch & get a good meal for around $5.00. No GMO, no aspartame, not a load of hormones crammed into the beef. Yea, they still had enough pesticides on the produce to make it Less Wonderful, but not every part of the meal was "toxic overload".

mmmmm wood.....

$5.00 JoG? I remember a "good meal good deal" at Micky D's, ....burger, fries, coke and get change for your buck.

As far as fillers...every burger joint in town claims 100% pure beef. Yet, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Hardee's, White Castle, Sonic, just to mention a few.....every one tastes completely different. 100% pure beef may be the base ingredient, but that's where it ends. God knows what else is in there. But what ya gonna do, not eat?

I never liked McD's, except the fries,, OHH man, those were the best fries,,I was pretty much a Burger King kinda guy, but there was a place( Texas Burger?) that slapped a sweet pepper in with the burger,, they made a good one, too.. IDK, maybe it was closer to 3 bucks back then, burger, fries & a drink, in 78 or so?

I used to walk 5 miles in the snow with no shoes down to greasy bobs, had the best hamburgers in town, came with a free pickle... I think they were around 3 cents back then, I used to have to save up for a week...

Not all 100% ground beef is created equal.
The particular animal it came from can and does make a big difference.
The past few years the ad campaigns have pushed "Angus" beef, which can but does not necessarily mean it is more tender and tastey.
Beef is produced in all sorts of places and with lots of animals.
Your best bet is to look closely when buying fresh meat or go to the best local joint that makes what you like.
