They are rare around here, but I wave at anything on two, or three, wheels, even mopeds.
Speaking of the police, I was pulled over for not having a current sticker on my license. (getting old - I forgot). My muffler is louder than legal and my helmet is not DOT approved (but it is ECC2205) and I thought I was going to get a couple of tickets. He wrote me a citation for $110, for the sticker, and said "This looks like a ticket and smells like a ticket, but if you get your sticker and show it on the bike at the reporting station within 48 hrs, it won't be a ticket any longer." I was on a busy road during rush hour, and he stopped traffic so I could get back on the road without getting creamed by oncoming traffic.
Nice guy.

they don't wave back around here, so I stopped waving to them, hell a pack of them almost ran me off the road last month

Two cops (not on bikes) were outside a Subway shop when I was getting lunch.  Bought them both a coupon card for two lunches and thanked them for their good work.  I don't know what they get paid, but it can't be enough.  And the cops around here have all waved back too.
