Okay, so I am finally getting around to replacing my broken left signal that I inherited from the previous owner. I wanted to upgrade while I was replacing them, so I scored a pair of OEM wide glide signals for cheap on EBAY that are able to be running lights as well as blinkers. I got em wired up and they work well, the only concern I have is power.
I recently replaced my taillight with a cat-eye incandescent and removed the tag light, so I have freed up maybe 5W from stock. The bulbs in the rear signal lights now are 12V32/3CP...whatever that means. They seem to be a little brighter than 1157's I have in the front.
I just wanted a little extra light in the back as I do a lot of early morning commuting in the dark, and wanted to add some extra attention grabbing light for sleepy drivers coming up from behind me.

So, am I going to kill my battery with these running? Sorry to keep posting these stupid lighting questions, but I will admit to being a bare bones electrician...I can get it to work by looking at a diagram, but have no idea what I'm actually doing or if I'm killing the battery and will wind up on the side of the road with no juice.

Takes you longer to warm up than to get to work. That ain't gonna keep your battery charged. you need a battery tender, overnight at least once a week.

Okay, I've been meaning to pick one of those up for a while now. Guess now is as good a time as any. Are there preferences out there, or is "Battery Tender" the standard?

Also, I have read a couple of threads on the battey power issue, but have not found an answer. Has anyone ever figured out how long a ride has to be and at what RPM's it takes to start charging the battery? Just curious.

Again, sorry for the inane questions, can I still claim noob ignorance?

the schumacker charger at wallyworld is a good one.
comes with a pig tail to permanently attach to your battery for quick hook ups.

I had an issue with starting in the morning a while back.
figured I would need to bump start it in the afternoon, but didn't.
started just fine.

I have a 1/2 hour ride to work at freeway speeds. So I would say that's what you need.

Thanks!! I'll have to run out and see if the Wally World down the road has one. The lights are 95% in, just a few cuts to make everything fit tonight and she should be good tomorrow.

This forum really is amazing to me. I never would have thought I'd be changing anything on my bike from OEM, but this site makes it a lot easier (and cheaper) to learn how to customize and maintain our machines. Great first bike experience, I must say!
