Anyone have a 2005 S40? I need to know the front axle pinch bolt torque... and I don't have the Clymers 2005+ edition available..

10 minute installation for a SuperBrace.. lol..  Roll Eyes Grin

It only took be 1/2  hr including removing the old fork guards and installing the new ones.

Is that 11 TO 18 ft lbs? If so, that's confusing.. so I can just torque it to 15 ft lbs?

SuperBrace shouldn't say 10 min installation... they didn't need to sell me on the speed and ease to install it... Cheesy

I never use a torque wrench for something like that. If it didn't have the fork protector it would be a 10 minute job.

How about parking the bike in the sun,  letting the guards get warm and flexible, then grabbing the tab with vise grips and yanking upward. Then cut them with utility scissors or nippers?

Yes, according to the service manual.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up cutting them off with a pointy exacto, the plastic is so soft it took me about 2 minutes for each one. I cut a groove almost to the metal, then was able to just tear/pop it off.

The SuperBrace is amazing, I'm just having trouble getting it completely down over my front fender. I'm gonna have to take the fender off tomorrow just to get it to 1/16 instead of 1/8th like the instructions say.  Wink

I suggest you put a thin piece of cardboard, like a shoebox wall, under the brace to space it away from your paint. Hitting the underside with a grinder isnt a sin.

I can't even fit a piece of paper under it to have it set at 1/16 when it's supposed to be 1/8th from the fork seal.. tomorrow I'm gonna take off the fender to correct it.. this is a 2005 S40 that I bought stock and haven't touched past the engine at all...

Mine is an 05 & I put it where I could, covered the gaps the plastic guards sat in & it rubbed a raw spot in the paint.. even after I used a grinder on the bottom of it, All I did was smooth the casting up,, I wish I had done just a bit more. I dont see the need for an 1/8th of an inch anywhere,, Just put the top on the line where the fork lowers start to taper.

Try loosening the fender mounting bolts & seeing if there is enough slop in the holes to get the clearance you need. If not, I would file the holes oblong before I would grind on the brace. Cool

Probably a better answer,, tho what I did was just removing casting that was needing cleaned up, I didnt remove anything structural
