leaking fuelcap vs expanding gasoline ?
10/16/11 at 20:53:56

I have had two or three gas cap leaks on this bike and I have had leaks on other bikes as well. Almost all are on a full tank and right after filling up. on a warm to hot day.
Any ideas on the amount of expansion that the relatively cooler gas in an underground tank will experience when it is pumped into a hot tank sitting in the afternoon sun? I seem to remember reading that it was as much as 15%? Any idea of how much time it takes for gas to expand?

I'm guessing that it's just enough time to notice that my cap is "leaking" on my pants again Smiley

Stop at the bottom of the tube,... with the bike in the upright, horizontal position...
Stop way before that, if you're on the kickstand...

I always fill mine to the bottom of the tube while on the kickstand just before a ride. Since I fixed the gas cap leak (finally!) I haven't had a problem.

Sometimes I have to ride a long way with no gas stations. I fill her to the brim and stuff part of a paper towel under the cap for the first few miles.

What does that do to help?
