It's always on the left side of the bike, whether you are standing, sitting, laying, or drooling on it. Maybe it is on the other side in England. True, it is always on the left side of the bike.
Saying it would be on
his right when facing the bike would have been more accurate. It would still be an odd way to describe it, for sure.
