Raptor petcock: right number, wrong part ???
10/14/11 at 19:00:53

I purchased the Yamaha 5LP24500-01 petcock today. The install was easy enough but it leaks like a sieve!
After installing it a 2nd time with the same results I took the time to look at the pictures. The unit I purchased is flush mounted where the unit most of you installed sits up on a stalk(?) and flush mount don't work!!!

What am I missing...aside from the $30.00 out of pocket?? Sad

Well, well well...look What I found.
Yamaha Part # 5LP-24500-00-00 FUEL thingy ASSY 1 (the long one)
Replaced by new # 5LP-24500-01-00 (the short one)
I wonder if 5LP-24500-00-00 is still available?

I certainly hope so, or else hope we can find somebody else who sells the same thing for another bike.

Go to the tech thread to see all the look alikes I found -- I would complain to who you bought it from and have them check their stock for "incorrect parts" and they will likely find a long one for you.

If not, tell us WHO THEY ARE as we don't want to be buying wrong parts from them !!!

The part supplier was the local Yamaha dealership, actually one of three shops in the Phoenix Metro area that do business as Apache Motorsports.
They are good people and given that Yamaha appears to have made a change in the OEM part number they might be willing to swap it or take it back.
If not I will try to make a standoff of some kind.

Since you bought it local,.. I'd try returning it... and ask for the longer one...

Strange,... that's the number that was on mine, and others have bought them since...

I'll delete the link from my Tech post until this is straightened out...

Just ignore Routy,..
Sorry this went wrong for you,... Johnboy...

OK! correct part is in and working as expected.
The Apache folks were wonderful...again. It turns out that while they did apparently change the part number from -00 to -01 the part itself has not changed. The passed the problem off to a mislabeled part, not common but not unheard of.

Bot, you can put your link back up!

Oh...By the way, (A plug here for Apache motorcycles) They had a brand new Yamaha V-Star 650 for 4,700.00!
