Does anyone know if there is a direct swap available for the Savage?

Been done a time or two. Yonuh Adisi changed his out, but can't remember details. Maybe WD had one too? Also seem to remember Voodoo Vintage was designing one.
Should find some results if you do a search, just be sure to go back to "all posts". I don't remember much recent talk about it.

I did go through the Search. Everyone else has been changing the neck out and doing some pretty major overhauling. I'm looking for a replacement to the front end we have now but I don't want to go with something crazy.

Keep in mind that all of the GS series have the same head tube dimensions as the savage. So if you find one for that series, there's a good chance it'll fit the savage. Might even apply to all japanese bikes, at least the early ones.

Then it's just a matter of making sure that it's of the appropriate length.
Or am I missing something vital in my work adled state?

I was looking at that one as well. Seems they custom make 'em so it shouldn't be a problem to get it to fit perfectly.
I look forward to seeing some shots of yours when you finish.
