New front spokes
09/26/11 at 09:58:48

I need new spokes for my 2006. Buchannan says they only have a spoke kit for an 1986 model. Is this the same hub/rim/spoke pattern  as on the 2006?

Where is Justin when you need him?

WHY in the world do you need new spokes?   You don't mention needing a new rim, so it isn't damage.

You do realize that you can buy a whole used front wheel cheaper than those spokes and a lace up & true job at a spoke shop, right?

If you really do need new spokes and can't find a spoke kit, most wheel shops can make spokes for your specific wheel. You could go for stainless steel.

With patience you can re-lace the wheel. Get the spokes swapped out & line it up to get it running fairly concentrically , then work toward making it run on the hub center & start tweaking the wobbles out, No special setup needed, leave the brake disk off , Install it,( gotta get the front off the ground so you can spin the wheel)  tape rods (  pieces of coat hanger will do fine) onto the forks to show you which way the rim is moving, Need 2, one to show wobble, one for run out,  Just dont try to get any of the spokes Tight until youve got the wheel pretty well lined up, Its gonna take a few hours after you get the spokes in.

I had to learn how to do rims, I rode a 10 speed a lot & true wheels are very important. Its not a black art, just takes some determination,, no one even gave me a clue,, its just a problem solving exercise,, common sense wins it,

& seriously, why Do you need new spokes? No way would I go back with these ugly stock spokes,,
