Wrecked Motorcycle up in Flames
09/15/11 at 18:13:02

Just on the 5pm news....ABC
Car crashed into a motorcycle,....cycle is under the front bumper, and burst into flames,.....the rider is completely under the car !
He will burn in short order as the car is starting to burn too.
8 guys run to the rescue, pick up one side of the car, another guy drags the rider out from under the car to saftey,....a minute later the car is history,....along w/ the bike.
3 guesses what I was thinking afterward,.......
Was he riding a bike w/o a vac operated PC ??
And, did it nearly cost him his life ??? Shocked

No, what nearly costed him his life was the moron in the car that pulled out of that lot without looking.

Kudos to those people for being there and being brave enough to help.

Manual PC's have been reliably used for decades prior to the current vacuum operated versions.  As for the fire in the accident video, one can only speculate as to the cause at this point.  The gas tank could have been punctured, the gas line could have been severed, gas could have leaked out of the gas cap, or maybe the vacuum PC was set on Prime?   Wink   One thing is for certain, the people that came to his rescue are true heroes!

Don't worry Routy,... that'll never happen to you...
Your vac petcock will protect you...

Just make sure that you crash to the left, so it has a chance to work...

None of us will ever know if the vac PC ever prevented a fire,.....my point has only been that it for sure could, and IMO, very likely has.

And right, didn't mean to set off PC paranoia,......we wouldn't want to see a pile of scrapped Raptors !! Shocked Grin

This is my newbie opinion... judging from the style of the bike I saw, it looked like an older restored cruiser kind of bike, so it probably had a fuel hose that got knocked off in the dump and sparks from the skid (metal on the street) set it ablaze...

Yep, those construction workers did an awesome job there.

The CX500 came with a vac petcock.  Fat lot of good it did in this case.

So is the vac petcock supposed to vacuum the fuel somewhere else in case of a wreck to keep gas from spewing everywhere and igniting BMWs?

I knew a guy who knew a guy that was trapped in a burning car by a seatbelt.

Kinda shows how dangerous seatbelts are, eh?

If the BMW driver would have been wearing his seat belt then the motorcycle wouldn't have caught on fire.

Also, if the motorcycle had a quieter muffler then the BMW wouldn't have swerved across the middle turn lane and into the oncoming lane.

In other words, the BMW driver should have been wearing a helmet.
