Oil Problem
09/04/11 at 13:19:56

At the end of last summer ,I changed my oil ,somehow I got ATV Suzuki 10-40 oil instead of motorcycle oil . I went about 600 miles on it . I just changed my oil today and realized my mistake but now the oil is 1 quart ATV and 1 quart motorcycle oil fresh oil  . Do I have to get rid of the ATV oil in the crankcase now ,will it damage anything? One parts  guy at the Suzuki place told me to change it ,but the manager said it wouldn't harm anything. They do have different additive packages. What do you think? Thanks!

If this is a joke, I'll bite !
I'd bet the only difference tween ATV and Motorcycle oil, is politics !

In reality, I didn't know there was any oil marked ATV.
Fact is, a week ago I changed oil in my Kawi Mule sxs, and put Rotella T motorcycle oil in it. Shocked

I didn't know there two suzuki 10-40 oils either. I did it unwittingly. There was a small amount of material on my magnetic drain plug ,I don't know if it had anything to do with the different oil .

I checked a Suzuki ATV forum and it appears some Suzuki ATVs do have wet clutches . I looked at Suzuki atv 10-40 oil at the suzuki site ,it said for automatic and centrifugal clutches . I think I better change the oil again. The stuff I had had a yellow cap ,and the one at suzuki website had a black cap . I don't know .

On the suzuki website ,the 10-40 atv oil said for automatic and centrifugal clutches . thats not a wet clutch . I better change it.I wonder what kind of damage it might have done?

If it bugs you change it for peace of mind. You probably didn't hurt a thing. Many of us have bought cars, bikes and such with what appears to be molasses in the case. After running cheap oil through them for about 500 miles over a period of 3-4 changes to flush them out, they went on to be reliable vehicles. Now, NO lubrication is a different story. Change it and ride it. Rotella T $12 a gallon. Castrol mc oil $7 a litre. Suzuki oil ?  Smiley

An automatic transmission is all wet clutches.
