On standby for Irene...

Boss called me around lunch time to warn me. May be heading for Long Island Monday morning with a giant track hoe or front end loader. I am one of two heavy haul qualified drivers in the company.

One self-loader truck was supposed to deploy to Delaware today, one team leader pickup headed for New Hampshire yesterday.

Guess it just goes with working for a tree service and disaster recovery company. Might get to see family I haven't seen in 21 years, lots of relatives on Long Island.

Wonder how long it takes to drive from Memphis to Islip in a blackout...

I'm just the delivery guy, I don't get to have any fun.  Angry  The boss is trained to drive it but doesn't actually have a Class A CDL, the other heavy haul trained Class A driver is in the small (60 cubic yard) recovery truck (if he got sent today). Boss can't afford for me to get hurt, knows I have a bad (and I mean bad) lumbar spine.

Sad thing is, the Pete 379 drop axle heavy hauler is a day cab. I better find my cane and recover the ball (head).

If the storm makes a lot of debris, I'll end up dragging a 100K# grinder up and down the eastern seaboard.  Think pavement eater, but for tree parts.
