Verslagen, Great bike. Electrics a little weak, but perfectly good for roadwork. If carbs and stuff weren't right, they could be hard to start cause 'lectrics were not good as today. It would be hard for me to change that good lookin stock ride, but it's your bike. With your knowledge of the Savage it should be no problem to get it going. Be patient. Enjoy the engineering. Glad you found it. Really great bikes.  Smiley

a little?
they got a 30/40 watt headlight and if you time the tyts out of the ignition you don't have enough juice to charge the battery.

I didn't want to talk bad about a great find for you. Okay, so they are a little weaker than I indicated, but don't grab a wire just to see. And you can sell it to a dealer for a conservation piece. Man, it's stock looking! If you don't have time to work on it, check with concours collectors or even the guys at Cycle World. Their editors are older guys who rode those things like my friends did. Seriously, they like those old bikes, and yours is one they can sneak past the wife 'cause it looks so good.    Smiley

I suppose we're all alike, we talk to death about the little problems we have.  And beotch about the 'great engineering'.  Hell when you're on 2 wheels... it's all good.   Cool

I got the small ultrasonic cleaner.
since acetone was the only thing to cut the tar, I may fill it up with that.
And yes, they recommend doing 1 carb at a time.
mixing known good assemblies together may result in non functioning ones.
They are only slightly different, left side have drain plugs on the left side and vice versa.
Probably only going to take them apart enough to change all the seals and clean the ports and passages.

The headlight shell was busted so I took that off.  What a mess of wiring inside.  But all the wiring has the same coloring on both sides of the connectors.  So it was pretty simple getting it back together.  lights work, signals work, gages light up, starter works.

1st mod already done, a savage battery fits.   Cool
