Using front turn signal on rear for running
08/24/11 at 12:41:49

I have an extra set of front turn signals for my 2007. I am thinking about getting some clear lenses and red dual filament bulbs and putting them on the rear. Where is the best place to tap into for running lights? Can they also do brake? Would it really mess up the load and make the lights go crazy or pull too much juice?

Thanks.

Trace the rear tailight/brakelight wires back to under the seat, and tap them there...

Use LED bulbs, so you don't pull too much juice...

Don't know about juice
but brown wire is taillight.
if they're red you can do what you want.
also there are conversion boxes that'll deal with running, turn and stop light functions.

Does anyone have opinion on which replacement 1156 and /or 1157 led bulbs to use in the stock signals?

IIRC 1156 is the single filament bulb that is in the stock rear turn signals and the 1157 is the dual filament bulb that is in the stock front turn signals/running lights and brake/tail light.  Cool

OK. So I probably wasn't too clear on what I was asking. Let me rephrase the question . . .

Does any have recommendations on which LED bulbs to use to replace the 1156 and 1157 bulbs in the stock signals? There are quite a few available that use the existing sockets but which ones work well?

Thanks.

www.superbrightleds.com has a good selection at reasonable amounts.

They say to make sure you match the LED color to the color of the lens for best visibility.

I have not ordered from them before, but looking at their website I found the following...

1156
Red 30 LED Part #1156-R30-WV $8.99ea
Amber 30 LED Part #1156-A30-WV $8.99ea (currently out of stock)

1157
Red 30 LED Part #1157-R30-WV $8.99ea
Amber 30 LED Part #1157-A30-WV $8.99ea

(shipping is only $2.99 for 1st class and $5.45 for Priority if the order is <$100)

Also keep in mind that if you change your turn signals to LEDs you will want to get a different flasher relay to make them blink at the correct rate.
