Need help bringing my 2008 S40 back to LIVE
08/20/11 at 08:33:32

I have a 2008 Suzuki S40 but hasn't ridden or even turning it on since fall 2009. Due to my wife's motorcycle brutal accident that time, I stopped riding it ever since. I still had a full tank of gas in it and the battery is dead. It was on until early spring 2010 but dead completely after that and it's been sitting in my garage ever since. Beside getting a new battery, is there any other things I should take care as well? I don't know much about motorcycle but I think I can manage. I appreciate everyone's advise and suggestion Smiley

Replace battery,... change oil, drain and replace gas, air up tires...
Pull spark plug and squirt a teaspoon of oil in the hole...
replace the plug.
Switch the petcock to prime, and see if it will start...
If it don't,... you'll need to take the carb apart and clean all the jets and passages...

Serow, I appreciate your knowledge, and I usually follow it to the letter. But how can you get a teaspoon to "squirt" oil? (Please, 100 words or less.)   Grin

Squirt,.. squirt,.. squirt...
(teaspoon is a quantity,... not a delivery method)...
Guess I should'a explained that... Huh...

The object is to re-coat the cylinder walls,... so try get it to the edges...
You can also tilt the bike back and forth... maybe let the starter crank a couple of times to move the oil around...
Wink...

If you don't have a can,... you could always put it in your mouth, and blow it out a straw...

Just stick the red plastic straw on a WD-40 can down in the spark plug hole, and crank the motor over a few revs while spraying the WD-40 into the cylinder.

Marvel oil is just kerosene with some benzene, napthene, mineral spirits, dye, and perfume (oil of wintergreen) in it.   It's just an old-style solvent.

It was invented nearly a century ago when oil and gas refining was very inconsistent, and there actually was a need for a solvent like this to clean things out.

Its lubricity is poor -- it is not a very good OIL.  It will have some degreasing/cleaning effect, but nowhere near as effective as modern cleaners.

It's main advantage is for Turtle Wax,.. the owners of the Marvel company.  The stuff is really cheap to make and simply due to tradition, still sells reasonably well.

So when you buy your seafoam, get it at Walmart so you can go to the grocery section and buy some food coloring.

Hey, hey! I'm sorry I brought up the oil question, even as a joke. In case the owner doesn't know, a little oil in the cylinder helps raise compression as well as offering a little lubrication.
