Replaced my stock risers w Deep Socket Mod

I replaced my stock risers off my '05 with the deep socket mod.

I couldn't find the post when I searched for it, but I want to thank the person who did that first on here. It works and looks great.

I bought two chrome 19 mm deep socks from Lowes. I think I spent 12 bucks for both. I then spent another 6 bucks or so on the bolts, washers and nuts from Ace. I went with locking washers on the bottom and also self-locking nuts. I used a screwdriver to hold the bolt in place up on the bar mount when I was tightening it.

All in all I lowered it by approx 2.5 inches. I love the lowered look, and I really like the straight look as opposed to the angled pull-back stock risers.

18 bucks, some gasoline and some time sure beats spending 80, 90, 100 bucks or even more on custom risers.

the way the risers are set up, you can use two identical sized deep wall sockets inbetween the stock riser and vibration damper giving it more height. then a drag bar with a small rise. this will get it to the height you want.

That's a good idea.

(And if they're Craftsman, you can get them replaced if they ever break.  Wink )

mmosel, your stock risers, how tall are they, and do they have any offset (pullback)?  I have been looking for a set of 3" risers with some pullback. I have an '87 with the 1" risers and buckhorns. I installed some BMX footpegs, cut to 3", as risers. They are straight up, so the handlebars end up too close to me. My idea is to flip some risers with pullback to the front, thus moving the bars away from me. If yours fit this description, and you are willing to part with them, PM me.

Yeah that's the same effect I'm getting with the Deep Sockets. I love the look, and the height is better, and they are further away than when the old risers were pulled back, but they are still a little close for my long arms. The stock risers (spacers) are almost 5 inches long ( bar mount adds even more height ), and they have about a 1 inch offset I'd say. I had them on backwards for about a week and I did like the extra distance, but they were also higher. I'm still deciding on the setup, so I'm not ready to part with them just yet. I've seen some on ebay for super cheap before though, usually from a parted out bike.

@runwyrlph
Are you referring to me with your post, or to Sluggo?

I'll get a pic of my setup and get it posted soon.
