New brake light wiring?
07/25/11 at 23:39:27

I have a new brake light. It has day time running lights and a light for the licence plate. I am not sure if the one for the licence plate is the same as the day time running. I am trying to wire the new light to the stock wire so that it plugs in. Sadly, the wires do not match up as I had hoped. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

New brake light wires
-Red
-Yellow
-Black

Old plug wires
-white with black stripes
-black with white stripes
-brown

easiest way is trial and error

but black with white is ground just about everywhere on the bike
brown is running or license plate light.
That would leave white w/black as stop.

on your new light, the brighter light is stop   Cool

HD light normally have the frame as ground

I was under the impression that if somehow I messed up the wiring I might burn something out.

It will be ok just using trial and error?

I would guess that black is ground on the new light, and red is stop and yellow is plate and running.

What's to burn up?  A light bulb, not much chance of that.

LED?  sensitive circuits should be protected, not always the case, but should.
if not, they should've included a wiring diagram.

Well, something went wrong. In the midst of it all, I somehow lost all power to my bike. I don't know anything about the electrical, whether it was a short, or I pulled something loose.
One second I was testing the wires, the next second my bike does not have enough power for a neutral light.

Now I really need suggestions.

Yup, turns out it was just a fuse. Everything is up and running. Thanks a bunch.

Not sure if this is useful to anyone, but the wiring was:

Brown - Yellow
White w/ black to red
Black w/ white to black
