I think Im having the same problem as him, but before i start yanking, whats with the allen bolt? I couldnt get it out. Does this mean I need the special tool, or can I proceed to separate the tube from the slider?

That allen bolt needs to come out:

Various people have created the "tool" out of various things.
Mine is made from threaded rod, 5/8 bolt, and a long "nut" to hold the two together.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Great trick!  I'm gonna add that to Motobuddha's tech thread on fork disassembly tools. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1298159607

the coupler nut was $1.99, and that was 1.6lbs of MISC bolts @ $3.00/lb.

Worked PERFECT
