My 1986 didn't come with a backrest and I doubt if I'll get one around here. It looks like part of the support bracket was cut. Clymer shows 2 bolts and another up from the bottom. I can see the hole for the bottom bolt but I can see only one hole on the inside of the support brackets. I measure about 3.25 in from the cut to the bottom hole. Here's the plan. Drill the inside hole to the outside. Push custom backrest down about 3 in to allow for rear signal wires. Use a bolt and cap nut on outside that would match cap nuts on front of supports. Would the 3 in be enough with only one bolt? I would assume the stress is out the back if somebody leans against it and not upwards. Clymer shows a pic but it is dark. I wonder if the remaining hole (close to the fender) is the bottom one and the PO cut off the top hole. Actually it's not the PO it was the guy ahead of her and she didn't know why.
