If you have the skill to pull the front wheel,... just add 20min. to drop each fork tube, one at a time, and you're there...
Easy as toast... Wink...

I have my trusty side mechanic Mr Clymer anyway. Is fork oil messy, will it pour off the tube?

To do fork boots,.. you don't have to deal with fork oil at all, ... only if you want to change it, while you've got them down...
You don't drop the sliders out,... just drop the hole tube down from the triple trees, and slide the boots on from the top...

Check out' Eazy on fork boot covers' they are slit down the back and attach with some kind of interlocking system doohickey. I wonder how durable they are...

However, the fork caps come off in order to slide the tubes out of the triple trees then back in. If you're a klutz, you might spill a bit of oil. But it's easy to clean up.

Truer than dirt.  The whole job should take no more than 1 to 2 hours.

My problem comes from a personality defect that will not allow me to leave well enough alone.  If I was going to the trouble of that kind of disassembly, I would be thinking things like:
-- Since I have the wheel off, I might as well clean it real well and rebalance it
-- Since I have half the labor done for a fork seal job, I might as well replace them too
-- Might as well scotch brite the rotor and the brake pads to get the glaze off
-- Hmmm, I wonder how the fork bearings are doing
-- so on and so forth

On a related subject, $70 to $90 seems like a lot for fork boots, when you can install real ones for 1/4 the bucks and a little more time.

I'll tackle that when riding season is over, I want to get the wheel powder coated while it's off anyway. Red Powder coat with white wall tire. In any case, I am proud to report that I have not taken my car this week at all Smiley
