Keep your head on a swivel.
Check every intersection and sideroad as you approach, especialy those hidden by trees ect.
Be a lil agressive when passing. When you pass, PASS!
Stay out of blind spots, get your arse up even with their mirrors or front wheel so they CAN see you.
2 second rule when following is good but 3 is better.
ALWAYS leave yourself an escape route at lights and stop signs.
Leave a good bikes length between your front wheel and their rear bumper.
Watch your mirrors at lights and stop signs.
Expect the unexpected because it WILL happen.
Expect that nitwit soccer mom in the SUV on her cell to look in her mirror or out her side window to look right at you but STILL not see you!

And then you got the one eyebrowed knuckle dragging fools that just dont like bikes that will crowd you, follow to close, slow n weave to prevent passing and even TRY to run you off the road.
ALWAYS drive defensively and dont expect a cage to respect your rights or personal space.
Dont always expect it from other bikers either.
Some are just Azz Hats.

Look far ahead and back to road constantly. You'll see danger shaping up and junk in the way up close. In curves, look where you want to be and make it happen. Practice and ride roads suitable for your confidence awhile. Soon it will feel natural, and you will know what all the hubub is about motorcycles. Smiley

Sounds like the stuff I heard in the course. For health reasons, I wasn't sure if I would be able to do the course. I thought I would learn on my own and hope for the best. Glad it worked out. The course should be mandatory. I even learned how to ride in 80 kph wind. I also learned to have more respect for bikers when I am in the van.

Did you tell him which of us to be wary of, huh Perry?  Wink

You only need to remember a couple things: you are a naked invisible target. Never trust the front brake (use it, just don't trust it). If you can't eat it in one sitting, it has the right of way.

Welcome to the asylum.

All of what I heard is invaluable. Like to add... don't let your mind wander. Stay focused and forget whats bothering you while your on the bike. You can always worry later.    Cool

I am retired so I can pick when and where I want to go. I don't plan on riding in the rain, heavy wind or heavy traffic but I know it can happen. Before I retired a few years ago, I bought a Honda Magna with the motor gone. I didn't know what I was in for but I learned the mechanical stuff. I got the Savage last year. It runs. Good shape. I'll still work on the Magna but if I get it going, I'll sell it and ride the Savage. Less complicated and lower. I rode the same type bike on the course. Thanks for the advice.
