Had a question, maybe someone knows something about this. So I built my RYCA, and I got the idea of maybe putting a Wisconsin Hobbyist motorcycle plate on it through the D.O.T. The reason i was thinking of doing this is that its a one-time registration fee, and I would no longer have to pay a yearly registration and plate fee anymore. I sent them pictures of the bike and they seem to think its reasonable and they are probably willing to issue me those plates. Mine qualifies because its significantly altered and its a replica of a 20+ year old bike.

Does anyone know the downside of this? Will it alter my insurance/ insurability? Will it change how the police treat the bike in case I am pulled over? Does it change the title from a 2006 Suzuki bike to something else? Will they be really strict when they inspect it? (currently wisconsin does not require inspections on bikes, except in the case of vintage or hobbyist bikes, so I am potentially drawing attention to a bike that really doesn't require an inspection right now).

I tried to get more details from the DOT but ended up getting transferred around to various people who really didn't know anything.

It may end up limiting how often you are supposed to ride/operate it. I'd ask about that.
