Oil filter change and Exhaust Wrap - Urrg!
07/05/11 at 17:47:52

Okay, someone give me some tips here. I put a nice titanium colored exhaust wrap on my header. I spilled oil all over the wrap doing my first oil and filter change the other day. What can I do to keep the oil left in the filter from running onto my header?

You can also remove the bolt in the bottom of the side cover to drain the oil filter cavity.

I just slide a piece of thin cardboard between the exhaust & engine case. Then it just gets on the cardboard.  Cool

And, when the inevitable happens, don't freak out about it.

Oil stains (even dirty oil) will evaporate from your wrap inside 60-90 days and the dark solids will become dust which blows off the fiberglass from the wind forces.

Smokes like a beeach for a few trips though ....  gets you some looks it does.

Your wrap is not immortal, it will come apart slowly over the years ....

Buy a bunch of extra wrap for the future, just to have it on hand. Inevitably you will spill oil or get dirt on it and it will get loose and come apart.
