Need to put it on a float charger or she'll run the battery down. Id probably shut the fuel off & run it till it died & treat the gas in the tank. Put it on a float charger & walk away. Mite change oil first, too,

Put it in a garage or shed, parked on wood, with a cover on it. Left mine that way all winter and after topping off the battery 4 months later it fired right up.  Cheesy

... if you were going for more than 6 months,.. I might suggest that she roll it forward or backward a couple of feet every month or so...
Tires that sit in the same spot , can develop flats spots...
You might suggest it, if you want... but 6 months ain't to bad...

PS... Safe deployment...  Wink...

Good advice so far.  My storage procedure is quite detailed, and probably overkill.  As you can see, many people do much less, and have never had a problem.  As a matter of fact, for short (< 1 year) storage, I can't think of a story where some bad stuff happened.  Anyway, I still go through the trouble.  My storage procedure for my (non-Savage) bike:

  • Fill the gas tank completely full, and put some Sta-Bil in it
  • Change oil
  • Turn off the gas and run the carbs dry
  • Drain the float bowls
  • Spray a little fogging oil in each cylinder
  • Put the battery on a battery tender
  • Put cardboard or wood underneath any tires that are touching the ground
  • Cover the bike with a good bike cover - not a tarp or something that traps moisture
  • Sit back and relax, your bike is safely stored

Update: I almost forgot.  Do not start the bike every once in a while for just a bit.  All this will do is introduce moisture into the oil and other parts.  If you are going to start the bike, you should get everything nice and hot, which you won't get from just starting and idling for a bit.  Better off following some of the above tips than occasional starts.  Just my two cents.
