Yuasa Battery
06/19/11 at 13:27:12

Hello guys,

Last night i tried to charge my battery. I forgot the lights on so my battery dropped dead and had no power. I refilled it with mineral water but after 24 hours on the charger nothing...is it the charger? Is it too long?
I bought the battery on November 2010. Yuasa site proposes slow charging but this charger is not that professional and a friend of mine used it for his yamaha v-max.

Greetings

You used mineral water?,... or distilled water?...

Should be distilled...
Mineral water is kinda' the opposite... Huh...

If you're using a trickle charger (300 to 500 ma) on a dead battery, it'll take fore ever,... use a 1 or 2 amp... 2 being preferred... more not recommended.

Battery tips..
Charge dead batteries with a charger rated at 2 amps or less.
6 to 8 hours @ 2 amps
10 to 16 hours @ 1 amp
20 to 30 hours @ 1/2 amp

Maybe a bad charger....

Yuasa batteries are good and it is very new... only 2 years...

Some car battery chargers have a 2 amp setting...

The battery has to have acid. Do you mean you dumped the fluid in it and filled it with water? Or did you just top it off? Your post seems to say you used only water. That battery should charge back with no problem. I don't recommend a trickle charger, but even that should do it in about 40 hours, according to the instructions with mine.

A trickle charger will take a few days to fully charge up a battery.  I jumped the gun and bought a new battery when my trickle charger didn't finish the job in one night.

Anyone need a spare batter?  Grin

I used the distilled water only where needed and to the top. The battery is 9 months old not 2 y.o.
Yesterday when i checked the voltage after 24hours of charging was around 4,8v. I don't get the tip about acid.
Is it possible that a battery is charged and discharged when the charger stays on?
From your messages i think it is the charger that is too small.
Thanks a lot guys, i will inform you soon

I would put the batter on a charger at 6-10 amps for 5 minutes then leave on 2 amps for at lease 10 hours.

Serowbot, 2010 is a year and 2011 is another year. That's 2 years. Wink
