Hi Everyone,
I blocked off both ends of the vac line & ran it in prime. It didn't stay running. Any other ideas why I'm getting fuel in the airbox? I smelled the oil and luckily there is none in that.

Either your float is sticking,... or the float needle seat is dirty or worn out..
You'll have to pull the bottom of the carb off... easiest if you pull the carb completely and do it on a bench...
The four screws can be a booger...
If you're not at all up to doing that... You can try some Seafoam in the tank. It might dislodge or clean some gunk that's blocking the seat, but it's a longshot...
PS... smart move, checking the petcock first...

Thank you Serowbot. I have been using the Seafoam recently because it feels like it's losing power too. That along with high test seemed to improve how badly it had been running, but it didn't solve the fuel in the airbox. Maybe the next thing to do is bring to the shop, I'm not sure I'd be up to pulling the carb. If anyone has other simple ideas before I bring it to the shop, that would be great.

I'm guessing that this has been a problem for a little while... but, you can sometimes dislodge a stuck float by tapping the floatbowl with a wooden dowel or spoon, or equivalent...
The floatbowl is the the bottom of the carb...
Lastest, bestest, hope before she has to go to the shop...

It has been said before on this site that mechanics do not necessarily know the intricacies of this bike. I suggest you try to learn as much as you can before/when you see the grease monkey. Know what you know and know what you dont. Just my 2 cents.

Jest for the fun of it, take the air filter off and give it a turn around the block to see if things get any better. Running it just a bit without the filter won't harm your engine, just don't do it for long.
Blocked up
(very old & dirty) air filter elements can cause what you describe.

The air filter appears to be in good shape & it was recently had a tune-up.

If you did exactly that, you still has a vacuum leak at the carb !

That's why you should always save the little red rubber vent tube cap off your new battery. Perfect size for that useless vacuum port. And the cap will last a few years...
Cap the ports and run it on prime or get a real petcock and block the carb port. Your bike will thank you.
Vacuum petcocks always have been and always will be a dumb idea. Never have worked right.

The only 3 bikes that I know personally haven't had any problem whatsoever since '06.
If and when mine does, I'll fix it back to OEM.
IMO, I think it is one of the best features that could be put on a motorcycle, (or any gravity flo eng) for convience and saftey.
