Silicone sealant attaching exhaust?
06/14/11 at 17:58:31

I just got in my BCB exhaust and tossed it on with some tan wrap.

The BCB video tells me to put some silicone to seal between the pipes. How necessary is this?

Very recommended to put on to fix exhaust leak that causes unnecessary backfires

I ended up welding my BCB drag pipe onto the header, no more leaks.

+1. Smear some of it, won't hurt. Mine is welded.

I used this stuff when I put on my latest muff. Seems to have sealed everything off well, but I have not had it on for very long yet.

Can we get some confirmation as to whether one or both of these products will do the job?
Anyone tried them before?

I've had the "Red" on my muffler/header joint for a few weeks now, and only put about 200 miles on it, but when checking for exhaust leaks, none have been found.

Purely based on the description of the "ultra copper" or "red" I would choose the "ultra copper" because it is listed specifically for exhausts. I only picked up the "red" because that is all that the auto parts store that I visited had in stock.

Silicon stuff did not work on my bcb.  I ended up getting the Suzuki exhaust gasket pipe thing that seals the manufacture exhaust to the header pipe.  I needed to use a rubber mallet to pound the bcb pipe in place.  The fit is tight and provide perfect seal.

Keep forgetting to stop and get some of that stuff, but found this in the garage from a prior project car.  Anybody see any problem with a wrap of it?  Its a 2" wide bandage.  Looks like it would wrap nicely over the joint.  I just have a small leak....

Ultra copper seemed to work well on mine.

The actually make an exhaust sealer, comes in a tube like RTV but made for exhaust sliding joints. Have to let it sit and cure before starting or it may blow out. I've had a tube for years. May have to have the parts store order it now. Max
