Clutch return/free play question
06/13/11 at 12:41:36
I have downloaded the Clymer's manual for the Savage. Thanks to the folks that post that info.....
I have some freeplay, a little more than what is recommended. Not a problem, as it looks as though I have plenty of adjustment room.
My question is--Does the clutch have some type of return spring? Something that will return the cable/handlebar lever to flush, or does it kind of dangle at the end of it's said "free play".
Mine certainly does not return to its resting position completely, but seems to dangle.
Okay, or not-so-good?
Thanks and God bless,
Farmer

dangle as you say.
book says 1/8" gap at the lever, turn the bars both ways to check if it gets tighter.
I just set it to 1/4" myself.

Thanks sir, both for the answer AND taking the time.
Sorry to use redneck slang
IF 1/4 inch is ok, then I will leave it there. Mine is actually around 6-7mm best I can tell, was figuring on taking it back to 3-4 but 6-7 really does not seem that far off when you consider the unit of measurement were working with.
That spring located around the shaft (looks like some trigger group springs I have seen in the past) in the clymer manual....does it even serve a purpose? Disengages the clutch, maybe? By the looks of the pics, looks like it would be prone to wearing out faster than the other parts of the assembly.
Thanks again, and have a blessed day!
