Fuel tank fitment question
06/09/11 at 10:30:48

Hello everyone, I recently picked up an 86 savage for my girlfriend for real cheap and I am in the process of cleaning it up and getting it all straight. The fuel tank has considerable rust on the inside, which I would usually just go through the process of cleaning it out, However it also has several nasty dents. I have found several decent tanks on ebay but many of them are labeled 96 up. My question is, what changed about the tank in 96, and will it fit on the older 86? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an '86, a '96 and an '02, no difference.

Only diff is between states with EPA evap control, non vented cap's and vent tube underneath.
