Walk into a dealer and tell 'em your dad needs a muff for his 60's triumph project bike and this is what's recommended...

I did that and the guy said if your dad needs this he's gotta be at least 96 bring him in and I'll give it to him for free.

Anyone know where I can get a 96 year old for an hour or 2?   Grin

This is simple
This is a little louder w/ 3/16 holes, (bigger louder)
It sounds good
No rejetting required

Thanks guys, based on bobert's comments I think I'll be going with the Dyna muff.  Need to keep on good terms with the neighbors.  Will any of the HDs require a rejet?  I'm afraid that's probably more tinkering than I'd be able to do without royaly F-ing up my carb.

OK, now that I think I can handle!  Thanks!  I think I'll start there and see how I like the sound once the OEM one is drilled.

If you do this, hold the circle at 1 5/8" (worked fine for me)
Others said they have broke drill bits from hitting stuff on the back side, probably from not using the 1 5/8 circle. Be careful.

I myself machined a center plug to fit the center hole, then used a dividers set at 13/16" to draw the circle.

Oh, and don't let your bit go too deep!  We drilled my son's similar to Routy's and knocked something loose inside.  Now it rattles a little...  lol

Oh, oh, oh.... if you do decide to buy a Dyna or such from fleabay, please save yourself some headache and show us the listing first.  There are some shady characters selling them and we've had some bad experiences, but we know who they are.  So learn from our mistakes!

Since you offered (and thank you!), I was considering this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUZUKI-SAVAGE-LS650-HARLEY-MUFFLER-CONVERSION-...

Seems like it might be a ripoff though if I can go down to the HD dealer and pick up a take off for ~20 bucks.

Yep, that's the seller we avoid!!  Haven't heard any reports lately, but not good stuff a while back.  Maybe somebody new will chime in that has had a decent experience with him, but I'm a doubtin it.

*Edit.. I should say the bad guys were from Land-O-Lakes too.  We think they change their ID after they get so many strikes.  So I assume this is the same seller, just different ID.

Good to know.  I actually went through his feedback and found another LS650 owner that bought this from him and contacted him.  He had good things to say about the product but it does seem pricey now that I know what I know!
