General Maintenance--Which Bolts Need Tightening?
06/07/11 at 14:33:29

Hi all,

I couldn't find the info through search so I was hoping for some direction.  During everyday riding I sense some rattle/buzzing from indeterminate locations...It occurred to me that I have no idea when the last time all the important bolts and screws were tightened.  I'm also planning a road trip within a couple of months and don't want parts to be coming loose and/or falling off after 100s of miles of vibrations.  Shocked

What are the most crucial bolts/screws/couplings to keep an eye on?

Thanks   Smiley

& I have done exactly NONE of them. Except for header flange bolts. I do them when I think they need it. Ive never even retorqued a head bolt. Its got 20.000 on it.

"During everyday riding I sense some rattle/buzzing from indeterminate locations."

Dollers to doughnuts your rattle/buzzing noises are coming from your spedo cable and/or your headlamp casing.

Fixes for both are in the tech threads.

"Dollers to doughnuts your rattle/buzzing noises are coming from your spedo cable and/or your headlamp casing."

+1  The culprit "rattle" on mine was the headlight.  A small bead of RTV around the perimeter of the lamp retaining ring took care of it.  Let it dry overnight before installing, acts like a rubber bushing.

I had to go one step further and use insulation stripping on some spots in the back of the case that were rubbing.
