Posts: 565 Kingston, Ontario, Canada Gender:	Header bolts torque specs 06/01/11 at 10:40:54 In the Clymer manual on page 208 #10, Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp bolts to 13-20 ft lbs. Does anyone interpret that to mean the exhaust header bolts, or the muffler to header pipe clamp bolt(s).

Certainly, they could have been more clear (header clamp vs. muff clamp) but the note immediately following the instruction says to tighten the header before the muff bracket completely ignoring the muff clamp. So I assume they meant too, and I rarely separate the muff from the header anyway.

I first tighten the header to the head, then I tighten the muffler to the bracket and then the header to muffler clamp. That eliminates tension on the head/header connection.

If you tighten the muffler-head clamp after the header-head clamp, then you'll induce additional stress on the header-head clamp. You'll start with the tension from tightening the header-head clamp, and then add some additional tension when you tighten the muffler-head clamp down and things shift.

Am I right?
