Two speedometer/odometer questions.
05/21/11 at 22:39:14
Just bought and '02 with less than 5k miles on it.
The speedo housing has a lot of "gunk" that seems to be inside the bezel. I wouldn't have expected that. Is there anything in/on the speedo that I can examine to link the speedo to the engine to ensure this is not a replacement?
Lastly, can the speedo housing be safely/easily disassembled and cleaned inside the bezel?

None that I know of and no and maybe illegal.
in some cases, oil can travel up the speedo cable.

One thing it could be is mildew from water entering the bezel. Had mine off two weeks ago to fix speedo "buzz". Didn't notice if the face was serviceable.
