Watch your idle speed- that slow and you are probably starving the cam bearing journals of oil. Should idle at 1100 +- 100 rpm.

Thanks Gyrobob.  That is actually something that had not occured to me.  After the adjustments are made, I'll ask him to quote a price for the board members who want to go this route. I used Hustler Machine in Memphis, TN.  pretty good folks.  Was quoted $300 (and billed) to use the first 6" of my factory header and my $50 emgo reverse cone shorty (17") muffler and then fab everything that connects the two with 2" stainless.  I'm repacking the Emgo baffle with some pretty hefty packing so hopefully the fact that he went with 2" tube wont make too much difference sine the inner tube on the factory header is 1.6" ID (I think).

Thanks for the compliment and I'll check on a price for the board members.

There is a 12" baffle at the end.

Jumpin Jiminy!  That exhaust system must be 20lbs lighter than stock.  How loud is it?  Did you rejet the carb?

Very loud, but not as loud as without the baffle.  Yes, I am in the process of figuring out the jetting.  I decided to wait since I ordered a new carb from Lancer last week.

I am thinking I like the position of that muffler, sitting on top. It sucks to remove the oil filter and have some oil find its way on the pipe below. My bike always smokes for a week after I do the oil.

I think the Suzuki tuned pipe works the best.

As usual, there are several sub-threads going in this thread, but I would like to say to mpnoffi that his explanations for further work on his scrambler make sense. Show us a picture of the completed job!

He uses  an Emgo 17" reverse cone megaphone muffler. It looks good. Question:  that muffler has an accessible baffle that allows more packing to be added?

I believe that's the muffler that Ryca is using on their kit bikes. On the 'Ryan's bike' YouTube video it's loud. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByNxIZh9Kew&feature=feedu

I'm doing a Ryca kit (it's not here yet), but I'm concerned about becoming cop bait with a non-Harley running a loud muffler. So I would add packing, if it's possible.

Thanks for the kind words Buck.  Between work and family, this project is going s l o w  for my taste.  I hope to have final pics sometime in the next few weeks though.

I read about these emgo reverse cone shorties over on the triumph board.  A lot of those guys are switching over to them and modding them a bit to keep them from being so loud.  The vids they post sound really good.  Here are a couple of links to their discussions.  Hope this helps you and others looking for exhaust ideas...
