gravel thru the belt

It's time for a new rear tire - I got the rear of the bike hanging from a come-along, taking the wheel off and i noticed a couple of spots where pea sized gravel is pushed thru the belt. it's flush with the belt teeth on the inside and pushing out 1/8 " on the outside. I'll try to put up a pic later.
What do you think - try to pry it out, leave it alone, what?

Personally, I'd pry it out. I'd be afraid it would get between the cogs and foul something up worse. I don't think the belt would be too bad with a couple little holes. Post pics....

Only person i know thats actually broken a belt is youzguyz, and it just happened a few days ago after 78,XXX miles. Seems like everyone and their grandmother has gotten a least one small hole from gravel. The belts are heavy duty. Id say pry it out and forget you ever saw it.

More than one person on here are running "compromised" belts with no problems, but I don't remember them. Check around the Marketplace. Several on here have spare belts and compassion for those who have priced one.

I would pry it out and run it.
Keep an eye on it to see if it starts to shred, but the damage is done already and it hasn't failed so taking out the gravel shouldn't make it worse.

You might consider filling it in with RTV just to prevent water from seeping in.
