I don't see romney as vanilla. the guy that made the 94 assault weapons ban permanent is Mass. He's and OG when it comes to socialized heath care.
In Mass they used to have lifetime registration on their vehicles. Say he never raised taxes but he did raise fees. Semantics

When romney took control for staples they made money yes, he did so by firing people to make the bottom line look better.
