Thought I would put up some pics of the sissy bar I just finished fabbing. I used a six foot piece of 5/8th solid stock and a harbor freight bender. (As well as a lot of elbow grease, a vise, and some hammering
)
Cost was about 10 dollars for the steel, took about 5 minutes to bend it to the right shape. Took the entire day and some of the next to drill and tap all those holes for it to mount back up like stock.
Can't forget welding up those brackets for the light and cushion too. (which I have yet to make)
Should really get that plate fixed up
Overall I'm really happy with it, and I love the way it looks. I think I will find an old leather pack of some kind and mount it over the holes in the fender.
Also replaced my busted signals.
Oh boy did I have a ball figuring a way to mount these guys up. Ended up cutting apart the old stems and using them for mounts with some threaded rod through the center of it. Had to drill that for the wires then, WHAT FUN!
I also rigged up the rear for running lights. The darn things aren't that bright so I think I may try and figure a way to put the old bulb system into this new housing.
Going to send it out to get chromed this winter, hopefully have the cushion for it made by then. If anyone's interested in a one off sissy bar I'd be happy to assist.
