5th gear is hit or miss - miss more when cold weather - miss fewer in warm weather - sometimes i think i am in 4th and go for 5th shifter does not move at all but the bikes goes to neutral for a few seconds.......is this clutch related, inherent to the bike or other? and would a new clutch help? & what kind...is it Barnett??

its normal. A quirk of our bike. The honda rebels and older hondas have a tendency to drop out of second into neutral. The term for our issue a "hidden neutral". Start shifting like this.
Pull clutch lever
shift up and keep pressure on the shifter
Let the clutch lever out
Let the shifter drop
