i bought my bike a little bit ago. wondering about the carb if it is jetted or not. he said he did it but how can i make sure he did? if he hasn't i want to. and isn't there more than one stage of jet? if it is how can i tell what stage it will be
it has a k&n filter and homemade drag pipes on it.

Is it running ok?
with the filter and pipe, most likely if it wasn't jetted, it will run like crap.
easiest way? check the plug.

its not a "stage" issue. There's (more or less) 3 circuits in any carb. Pilot, Mid, Main. Pilot covers idle and low range throttle. Mid covers (you geussed it) mid range throttle, main covers high mid to WOT range. All ranges overlap to some degree and the number of acceptable combinations depending on application, altitude, temperature, barometric pressure etc etc varies from engine to engine slightly within a single make/model and depnds on what you've got going on with intake/exhaust.
For instance...I have a Mikuni VM38 carb. I'm running a #10 pilot jet. I could be running a #65 pilot jet or more or anything between the two in half size increments. For mid range there's needle jet size to consider, jet needle size, and jet needle height in relation the slide.
Basically...if it's running alright dont go effin with it before you know what you're doing or you'll waste your time most likely if not cause a problem. On the other hand...the previous owner probably did exactly what I just told you not to do. Read Read Read. Use the search function. If/when you do decide to go changing things go slowly and realize before hand thats its a very very tedious process unless you have free and easy access to a dynomometer.

I just listed all the manuals in another thread and how to check your cam chain.
If the bike is over 10k miles, it's good to check it. A lot of people will dump a bike needing maintenance on newbs. Only to have it go unchecked/unaware and it blows up in a few thousand miles.

Yep,, looking in on the cam chain now is th smart move. If the tensioner opens up & spits that spring out, it gets ugly.

That is pretty much my bike's life story, now I get to rebuild it.
