Turn signal bulbs & Brake Lights
05/02/11 at 11:22:24
Question:
The savage manual calls for bulbs like 12V 21/5W or 12V 21W
Can you substitute a car bulb (Advance Auto) that fits?
I can find 12.8V 27/8W. Is that close enough, or will that blow a fuse?
How far off the reservation can I go? If I can't find a bulb here, were do you guys order them from?
Question #2:
I have a taillight, but I don't have a brake light. The bulb "looks" fine.
Neither of the brake levers will activate the brake light. What is the likely cause?
Thanks for any help!
Bob

Any 1157 bulb works... Auto part is fine...
1157 is a two filament bulb,.. one is probably burned out...
Try a new bulb in the tailight, if that don't work,.. look for a disconnected wire...

verslagen1,
Not sure what message I'm supposed to see. Can you help me interpret?
It looks like the 1157 is close. Are you saying that it's close enough or too different?

1157/1156 is what we use.
2057/2056 is a little bit brighter.
2357/2356 will have the guy behind you convinced the sun does shine outta your a$$.
Couple extra watts here is acceptable.
Only concern I would have would be heat melting lense and housings.

If the brake light portion of the bulb is good...and the brake light doesn't work with either the front brake lever or rear brake pedal - you likely have a wiring problem somewhere and the power is not getting to the bulb. You need to start checking the wiring and see if you are gettign power to the switch on the front brake switch and rear brake pedal switch. If you have power to those places and the switches function properly - you then need to find out why it isn't making it back to the brake light bulb. This is a job where you need to own a volt/ohm meter.
