The header pipe from the muffler. Don't want to damage the header pipe so I'm asking before going further

What worked for me was repeated applications of PB Blaster into the joint over several days and repeated and careful tappings with a plastic-faced hammer. Soak that joint in PB Blaster, but don't do it inside as it has quite an odor.

Throw a couple pieces of wood on the ground to support and prevent scratches.  You might want to make a cradle for the header, just round it a bit to match the pipe.  Lay it down and step on joint.  Rotate and repeat.

Glad I'm not the only one that had this issue. What worked for me was repeated banging of the entire assembly on the ground... Good thing about a project bike is you don't have to be gentle with the parts your getting rid of!
