Front belt pulley washer...

... just bought a new one,... and it is bowled around the edge.  Don't remember my original being like that.
I hope it holds better... I know it'll be easier to fold to the nut...

Gonna' scuff the threads, lok-tite it, and put it on with a 250lb impact wrench...
... if that don't work,... the welder's comin' out...  Angry...

PS,... that sucker's come loose a half dozen times... last time, I did loc-tite (red), and impact wrench...  loose again...

I should be proud,... my bike's a TorqueMonster!...
Heck,.. I am proud....   ... and a little annoyed... Huh...

You have certainly torqued it on there and you probably did the last few times as well.  I wonder if the problem is with the pulley.  If excess clearance has developed on the splines and the pulley rotates slightly forward and backward on the shaft as the bike accelerates and decelerates that movement might, over time, tend to screw the nut loose no matter how tight you put it on.  Maybe it is time to look for a new pulley or put some epoxy/filler on the pulley splines and shaft to fill in the clearance and stop the rotation.  It's just a guess but I have seen the same sort of problem in other types of machinery using a splined drive shaft.

A taper lock pulley hub is a much better way to go and I don't understand why manufacturers don't correct chronic mechanical problems.  The taper pulley hub would cost them a couple bucks more but they would make it up by not cutting all those spline teeth in the shaft and pulley.

I think Suzuki's mentality with the LS650 is that it's a short-term, beginners' bike, unlikely to run up a lot of mileage. And being a beginner bike, the owners are less likely to spot something going wrong. So they design it to be sufficiently durable for that use, and to meet an entry-level price point.

I'll do a close inspection for that when I install the new washer... Wink...

What I don't understand is how the nut can loosen if the washer is bent to keep it from turning.

its only bent up on itself. it needs to be bent up against the nut and against something that doesnt move. A tab on the case or something. I've often wondered what real purpose that washer is supposed to serve other than to take scraping from torquing the nut instead of the pulley.

Actually, the washer is toothed to fit the shaft... but, my thinking is, that the washer teeth have worn a bit and are allowing the nut and washer to wiggle loose together... so I bought a new one to try it...
